Double Light Text Effects for an Instant Transformation
Insight from Tuts+
There’s no shortage of ways to create eye-catching designs, and in the world of text effects, double light is always worth considering.
If you’re ready to experiment with double light text effects, Photoshop is your best friend. Here’s how it works:
Import your text: Open Photoshop and start a new project. Select the Type tool from the toolbar, click on your canvas, and type out the text you want to apply the double light effect to. If you don’t have Photoshop, try it for free by clicking here.
Customize your text settings: Adjust the font, size, and alignment of your text using the Character panel. Choose a bold, clear font to ensure the double light effect stands out.
Duplicate the text layer: Right-click on the text layer in the Layers panel and select Duplicate Layer. This duplicated layer will be used to create the first of the two light sources.
Apply the first light effect: With the duplicated layer selected, go to Blending Options by right-clicking on the layer. Check the "Outer Glow" option, and choose a color for your first light source. Adjust the size, spread, and opacity to achieve a soft glowing effect around the text.
Create the second light source: Duplicate the text layer again. Go back into Blending Options for this new layer and select "Outer Glow" once more. Choose a different color for the second light source. Offset this layer slightly by using the arrow keys to nudge it, creating the double light effect.
Adjust blending modes: To enhance the effect, experiment with different blending modes for the top layer, such as "Overlay" or "Screen." This will help the two light sources blend more naturally, giving the text a dynamic, glowing appearance.
Finalize and refine: Convert your text layers into a Smart Object by right-clicking and selecting Convert to Smart Object. You can then apply a slight Gaussian Blur to soften the edges of the glow. Adjust the opacity and blending modes of your layers to fine-tune the final look.
Are you ready to double down on your text effects?
That’s all for this week!
