Welcome back to Art Piece 👋

Let’s dive in 🙌

Today’s Tip:
Vintage Design is Making a Comeback (Did it Ever Leave?)

Insight from Adobe

Everyone loves a blast from the past, and sometimes the best way to add some spice to your projects is to add a certain vintage feel.

When done properly, vintage effects add a real sense of nostalgia and beauty.

Want to give it a shot?

Photoshop makes creating vintage designs a fun and simple task.

Here’s a step-by-step way to get started:

  1. Open Photoshop: If you don’t have a subscription to Photoshop, you can try it for free by clicking here.

  2. Duplicate the background layer: Right-click the Background layer in the Layers panel and select Duplicate Layer. Name this layer "Vintage Base" and click OK.

  3. Apply a sepia tone: With the "Vintage Base" layer selected, go to Image > Adjustments > Hue/Saturation. Check the "Colorize" box, set the Hue to 30, Saturation to 25, and adjust Lightness as needed to create a sepia tone.

  4. Add a vignette effect: For a subtle vignette, add a layer named "Vignette." Select the center of your image with the Elliptical Marquee Tool (M). Invert the selection (Select > Inverse) and fill it with black (Paint Bucket Tool). Set the "Vignette" layer to Overlay and adjust opacity.

  5. Apply a grainy texture: Go to File > Place Embedded and choose a grainy texture file. Adjust the size as needed and place it over the entire image. Set the blending mode of this layer to Overlay or Soft Light and reduce the opacity to blend it with the artwork.

  6. Add vintage overlays: Go to File > Place Embedded and choose vintage overlays like scratches, dust, or paper textures. Adjust the size and blending mode (Overlay or Soft Light) to integrate these overlays.

  7. Adjust colors and tones: Select the "Vintage Base" layer, then go to Layer > New Adjustment Layer > Levels to create a levels adjustment layer. Adjust the sliders to enhance the contrast and give your design an aged look.
